Supporting Young Carers & Their Families

Winchester & District Young Carers was one of the first groups HIWCF supported back in 2006. The grant of £1,100 was awarded to support young carers who take on enormous responsibility, often isolating them from their friends and peers and the normal social interaction they would usually enjoy. An activities programme enabled the youngsters to attend a youth club and get involved in a befriending scheme providing time out with a volunteer. HIWCF is delighted to have been able to support the group over the last ten years with the number of young carers receiving support more than doubling over that time.

For the past four years I have been caring for my disabled mum who has a long-term illness which has deteriorated over the years. At any time, I never felt alone because of the help and support given by Winchester Young Carers
