South Downs College in Havant was awarded a grant under the Solent Community Grants Programme to help build the confidence and increase the skills of those aged over 50 claiming out of work benefits or who re economically inactive; to encourage and support them with education and training in areas such as literacy, numeracy and ICT in the workplace. Students are able to work towards gaining their English and Mathletics GSCE qualifications, with additional training available in other areas including business administration and food hygiene.

“The unemployed 50 plus age group is an area of particular concern, and at the Havant Job Centre there are many people who have specific requirements for help with their job search activities. We focus on the needs of individuals to help prepare them for re-entry to the job market”.
